Siliguri, 07th August: Amid the scorching sweltering heat in Siliguri, the power cut has caused widespread outrage among the people. Residents of different wards of Siliguri have expressed anguish toward the electricity distribution company. Despite the ample time before the arrival of the Puja season, electrical maintenance work has been going on for the past two months in the city. Due to this, power cut is being imposed in several areas in Siliguri from morning till evening.
According to a recent press release, it was announced that there will be no electricity services in the same area for several days. But amid the scorching heat for the past few days, normal life has been significantly affected due to power shortage. Schools and colleges are closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic; with no electricity, the students are facing difficulties attending their online classes.
Furthermore, elderly people are also mostly staying indoor due to the pandemic. The heat and power cuts have added to their troubles. Meanwhile, many business people are also facing losses in business. They expressed displeasure over the role of the electricity distribution company.
In this regard Ranjan Sarkar, a member of the Board of Administrators of Siliguri Municipal Corporation, said that in the release issued earlier by the electricity distribution company, 10 days were fixed for repair works in an area. Later the number of days was reduced after discussing with the power distribution company. During that time it was also said that repairs should not be done for a long time.
