Phansidewa, 31st May: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, police arrested two individuals and seized 40 kg of cannabis in the Ghoshpukur area under Phansidewa police station on Friday night.
Acting on a tip-off, the Ghoshpukur Outpost police intercepted a four-wheeler travelling from Assam to Kolkata. During a search of the vehicle, a bag containing cannabis was found.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Ajit Mandal and Mohammad Rabiul, both residents of Birpara. They were presented before the Siliguri court on Saturday.
Police have launched an investigation to trace the entire smuggling network.
