Siliguri, 29th August: Sensation prevailed after a police official committed suicide by shooting himself with his service revolver, on Saturday night. The deceased has been identified as Sudip Chettri. He had been working as an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) at Sevoke outpost for about a year and a half. He used to stay at a rented house there.
After Chettri shot himself last night, he was rushed to a nursing home in Sevoke road, where the doctors declared him dead.
However, it is not yet known what caused him to commit suicide.
His relatives and acquaintances arrived at the nursing home after receiving the news of the incident. The body was sent to North Bengal Medical College for autopsy this afternoon.
It has been learned that Sudip Chettri loved playing cricket. He was a resident of Malda. He left behind his wife, daughter, mother, and brother.
