Siliguri, 24th October: In a proactive measure ahead of Diwali, the Matigara police have seized a significant amount of illegal firecrackers and detained an individual identified as Bharat Kumar. The law enforcement is actively working to curb the sale of prohibited fireworks during the festival season like every year.
On Wednesday, police conducted a raid, based on a tip-off, at the residence of Bharat Kumar in the Khaprail Market area, near Matigara police station. The officials discovered a substantial quantity of illegal firecrackers, with an estimated market value of over one lakh rupees.
Following the raid, Bharat Kumar was detained and taken to the police station but was later released on bail. Meanwhile, the confiscated firecrackers have been stored by the Matigara police for further investigation.
