Police bust major forgery ring in Phansidewa, one arrested

Phansidewa, 28th May: In a significant breakthrough, the Phansidewa police successfully busted a major fraud ring involved in forgery of ATM cards and bank passbooks. The operation led by Darjeeling District Additional Superintendent of Police (Kurseong), Abhishek Roy, resulted in the arrest of Anil Gope.


Acting on a tip-off, the Phansidewa police in collaboration with Superintendent Abhishek Roy raided across Paschim Nijbazar and Hagra Gach areas of Phansidewa. Reportedly, a gang responsible for online fraud schemes by producing counterfeit ATM cards and bank passbooks had been active for several months in the area.

During the raids, the officials seized a significant number of ATM cards, SIM cards, and bank passbooks prompting the arrest of Anil Gope. After interrogating Anil Gope, the officials were led near the Murikhawa More at the residence of Mohammed Sahidul, who was evading the authorities at the moment. Meanwhile, upon questioning his wife, the authorities came across crucial information in connection to the case.


In this regard, District Additional Superintendent of Police Abhishek Roy highlighted that the investigation is in its preliminary stages which indicates that this gang may be connected with the international fraud.
