Siliguri, 31st May: A tense atmosphere unfolded in the Bhimbar area in Bidhan Nagar following the dispute between two parties over about 10 bighas of land on Wednesday. The incident escalated after one of the parties staged a 5-hour road blockade at the national highway in Bidhan Nagar leading to the arrest of 30 individuals, including 25 women.
According to the information received from the administration sources, the ancestors of the party presenting its claim on the land had lawfully sold the land in the years prior. Significantly, documented evidence firmly establishes the current ownership rights in favor of the other party. However, the real motive behind the dispute is covered in speculation, indicating the potential involvement of the notorious land mafia. Additionally, suspicions arise if the land mafia is allegedly attempting to capture the land worth crores by using women at the forefront of their conflict.
Subsequently, legal action has been initiated against the arrested individuals under various IPC sections, including charges of obstructing police operations, unlawfully obstructing the national highway, and alleged illegal occupation of the land. At present, the Bidhan Nagar police are further investigating the matter while the case has been forwarded to the Siliguri Court on Thursday.
