PM Modi to address public meeting at BJP’s ‘lucky’ Kawakhali Ground in Siliguri

Siliguri, 11th April: The Kawakhali Ground in Siliguri has once again emerged as a focal point of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s election strategy, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi set to address a public meeting there. The BJP considers the venue “lucky,” believing that events held at the ground have historically yielded positive electoral outcomes.

According to party leaders, Modi’s address from Kawakhali is often seen as a strong indicator of electoral momentum. With this belief, the Prime Minister is scheduled to hold a public meeting at the venue on April 12, aiming to galvanize support ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.

The ground has played a pivotal role in previous elections. Political observers note that meetings addressed by Modi at Kawakhali have significantly influenced voter sentiment across North Bengal, making the venue a strategic “trump card” for the BJP.

Following the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the upcoming event is expected to boost the morale of party workers and help shape campaign strategies for Assembly constituencies across the region. BJP leaders have described the meeting as crucial for consolidating support in North Bengal.

Preparations at Kawakhali Ground are in full swing, with several senior BJP leaders already arriving in Siliguri. Meanwhile, the Siliguri Metropolitan Police have implemented stringent security measures across the city. Surveillance has been intensified, and traffic arrangements have been modified from Naukaghat to Bagdogra to ensure the smooth conduct of the programme.

Historical data cited by the party highlights that during the 2019 and 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Modi’s meetings at the same venue were followed by victories in the Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri constituencies. BJP leaders Raju Bista secured a record win in Darjeeling, while Jayanta Kumar Roy emerged victorious in Jalpaiguri.

The venue also held significance during the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections, when political dynamics shifted following Modi’s meeting, leading to BJP leader Shankar Ghosh’s victory in Siliguri. Consequently, the party has once again chosen Kawakhali Ground, considering it both strategically important and symbolically favourable.
