Permanent building of Jalpaiguri Circuit Bench to be inaugurated on January 17, preparations underway

Jalpaiguri, 13th December: The permanent building of the Jalpaiguri Circuit Bench of the Calcutta High Court will be inaugurated on January 17, with preparations already underway in the district.


On Saturday, senior Calcutta High Court judge Justice Debangshu Basak visited Jalpaiguri to review the arrangements for the inauguration ceremony. He also held a meeting with representatives of the Jalpaiguri district administration to assess preparedness and coordination for the event.

The Jalpaiguri Circuit Bench of the Calcutta High Court was established in 2019, with judicial proceedings initially conducted from a temporary building on Station Road. Construction of the permanent complex later began at Paharpur, on the outskirts of Jalpaiguri town.


The permanent court complex has been built on approximately 40 acres of land. With the completion of construction, the long-awaited inauguration of the permanent building is now set to take place.

The inauguration ceremony is expected to be attended by the Chief Justice of India, along with the Chief Justices of at least six High Courts from across the country. Guests from various parts of the state and the country are also likely to be present at the event.
