Rajganj, 04th July: Continuous rainfall has caused a section of a culvert in the Hariya Bari area of Rajganj’s Majhiali Gram Panchayat to collapse, creating a dangerous situation on the Bandhunagar-Kalinagar paved road. This road is a vital thoroughfare used by thousands of residents daily.
Reportedly, the collapse occurred due to the pressure of rainwater, leading to concerns that the remaining structure may give way, particularly under the weight of heavy vehicles. Local residents fear a major accident if the issue is not addressed promptly.
In response to the situation, Majhiali Gram Panchayat Pradhan Sumit Dutta, along with Panchayat and Panchayat Samiti members, visited the site and installed barricades to restrict access to the damaged section.
Pradhan Sumit Dutta stated that the culvert, constructed under the PMGSY project, requires substantial funds for repair. He mentioned that the Gram Panchayat lacks the resources for the necessary reconstruction and has reported the matter to the Rajganj BDO and Jalpaiguri Zilla Parishad for urgent action.
