Jalpaiguri, 21st August: A section of an old multi-storied building, Mukta Bhavan, collapsed in Jalpaiguri’s Samaj Para More area, Ward No. 05, under Jalpaiguri Municipality. The incident occurred at approximately 10 p.m. on Tuesday when a large pillar from the third floor of the six-story building broke off, crashing onto a shop below and the road. Fortunately, several people in the vicinity managed to escape unharmed.
Upon receiving information, municipal authorities, including the vice chairman, and officials rushed to the site, followed by police from the Kotwali police station.
Mukta Bhavan is reported to be in a dilapidated condition. Jalpaiguri Municipality Vice Chairman Saikat Chattopadhyay stated that a thorough investigation will be conducted regarding the building’s condition in collaboration with the builders. The owner will be issued a notice, and strict legal action will be taken if necessary to prevent further danger.
