Cooch Behar, 07th April: Sensation prevailed after a horrifying murder of a panchayat member along with her husband and daughter surfaced from the Hospital Para area under Sheetalkuchi block of Cooch Behar. The horrifying incident has caused panic among the residents of the area.
Reportedly, miscreants attacked the house of local panchayat member Neelima Barman this morning. The miscreants attacked 4 people including the panchayat member with sharp weapons. On hearing them shouting for help, the neighbours reached the spot. After this, they were rescued and rushed to Mathabhanga Sub-Divisonal Hospital, where Neelima Barman and her husband Bimal Barman succumbed to their injuries. After this, both the daughters were referred to MJN Medical in Cooch Behar in critical condition. During this, the doctors declared Runu Barman, the daughter of Panchayat member Neelima Barman dead.
Meanwhile, the other injured daughter is currently undergoing treatment at Cooch Behar MJN Medical College and Hospital. Three people have been detained in the said incident. On the other hand, as soon as the news of the incident was received, huge police corps from Sheetlakuchi Police Station and Additional SP of Mathabhanga Division Amit Verma reached the spot.
According to police sources, one of the accused, Vibhuti Bhushan Barman, was in love with the younger daughter of the panchayat member. It is speculated that the said incident transpired because of the same. However, after the incident, the locals nabbed the three accused and thrashed Vibhuti Bhushan Barman, injuring him. Police reached the spot, rescued and sent him to MJN Medical. The police are probing the entire incident.
