Rajganj, 17th December: A wave of wildlife panic struck Belakoba in Rajganj on Wednesday morning as a pair of elephants entered the area, creating a stir in Khalka Para under the Belakoba Gram Panchayat.
Forest department personnel from the Belakoba Range rushed to the spot immediately. Continuous patrolling has been underway since early morning, with Kotwali police also deployed to manage the situation.
According to local sources, the two elephants entered the area via the Karla River route. While some damage occurred to tea gardens, no casualties have been reported so far. Residents are spending the day in fear, despite the crowds gathering to catch a glimpse of the animals.
Rajkumar Pal, Range Officer of Belakoba, stated that the elephants entered the area via the Karla River path on Wednesday morning. Due to heavy human movement, they have not been able to return on their own.
Forest officials are on-site to control the situation and assured that the elephants will be safely guided back to their destination via the Karla River route at an appropriate time.
