Over 1 kg brown sugar seized in Siliguri, one arrested

Siliguri, 14th January: A major drug haul was recovered during a special police operation in Siliguri’s South Colony area, leading to the arrest of one person. The arrested accused has been identified as Bharat Mondal, a resident of the Kaliachak area in Malda district.


According to police sources, the accused had allegedly brought more than one kilogram of brown sugar to Siliguri with the intention of selling it. Acting on a tip-off, the Special Operations Group (SOG), along with New Jalpaiguri police, conducted a raid in the South Colony area and detained the suspect.

During the search, police recovered a large quantity of narcotics from his possession, following which he was formally arrested. The estimated market value of the seized brown sugar is around Rs 30 lakh.


The accused is scheduled to be produced before the Jalpaiguri court on Thursday. Police have initiated an investigation to ascertain whether more individuals are involved in the drug racket.
