Siliguri, 05th November: Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal launched a sharp attack on the Congress and the INDIA alliance, alleging that the opposition’s objective is not to protect democracy but to capture power by any means.
Sonowal made the remarks while attending the ‘Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy’ programme organised by the BJP in Siliguri on Thursday. Darjeeling MP Raju Bista and Siliguri organisational district BJP president Arun Mandal were also present at the event.
Alleging that opposition parties were attempting to spread confusion and disrupt law and order, Sonowal said that people had understood their intentions.
Praising the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said the Central Government had brought crores of people out of poverty and extended the benefits of various welfare schemes, including housing, toilets, cooking gas, free ration and Ayushman Bharat.
Accusing the Congress of promoting corruption and political confrontation, Sonowal also raised the issue of the IMDT Act in Assam, alleging that it had provided protection to infiltrators. He further accused the Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal of failing to prevent infiltration.
Sonowal said that questioning Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), the Election Commission and courts after electoral defeats reflected the political frustration of opposition parties. He also accused Rahul Gandhi and other opposition leaders of questioning the valour of the armed forces.
Referring to the goal of making India a developed nation by 2047, Sonowal urged the youth to contribute towards nation-building.
