Siliguri, 05th November: Siliguri Metropolitan Police has busted an alleged illegal call centre operating from a rented flat at Lexican More in Matigara. Nine people, including a woman, have been arrested in the operation. Police have also seized dozens of mobile phones, laptops and several other electronic devices from the premises.
According to police sources, the alleged call centre was operating from Flat No. 103 of Mayfair Green-1 apartment near Lexicon More under Matigara Police Station. The office was reportedly set up in a rented room under the name of Anisha IT Solution, which was operating as an IT company.
Acting on a tip-off, a joint team comprising the Special Operations Group (SOG), Detective Department (DD), Cyber Team and Matigara Police Station conducted a raid late Wednesday night. The operation led to the discovery of the alleged illegal call centre operating inside a closed room. Eight men and one woman were arrested.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Ravi Singh (23), Arindhan Singha Roy (28), Agnes Gosake (24), Bharat Sharma (25), Irshad Ahmad (27), Shubham Sharma (23), Mousin Ansari (30), Nalin Singh (29) and Rehan Khan (22).
The latest action comes after repeated police raids at Webel IT Park in Siliguri over complaints of illegal call centres operating from the government-run facility. Last month, Siliguri Metropolitan Police had conducted a large-scale late-night operation simultaneously across all three phases of Webel IT Park in Matigara and exposed alleged illegal call centre operations.
With police surveillance reportedly increasing at Webel IT Park, those involved in such activities had allegedly shifted their operations to closed rooms in residential apartments. The latest raid has now exposed another alleged operation.
All nine arrested individuals were produced before the Siliguri court on Thursday. Police are seeking their remand for further investigation and questioning. Investigators are trying to establish the extent of the alleged cyber fraud network and identify the possible involvement of others.
