Rajganj, 08th January: Rajganj police arrested a person with illegal betel nuts. The accused has been identified as Hansnath Yadav (60), a resident of Belgachia.
Reportedly, on Friday night, the police stopped a truck at Hathi More of Rajganj upon suspicion. During the search, 218 bags of betel nut were recovered from the truck. Yadav failed to provide any valid documents for the article and was hence taken into custody.
According to police sources, the accused had intended to smuggle the betel nuts to another state via Siliguri. The market value of the seized betel nut is said to be in lakhs. The accused will be presented to the Jalpaiguri court today.
