One dead, four hospitalized due to food poisoning in Siliguri

Siliguri, 20th May: A tragic incident of food poisoning in Siliguri has resulted in one death and four hospitalizations from the same family. The affected family, residents of Suryasen Colony in Ward 34 of Siliguri Municipal Corporation, fell ill after consuming contaminated food.


Reportedly, the incident occurred in the home of Manoj Karmakar, where fish and vegetables were prepared. Manoj Karmakar, his wife, two sons, and a daughter all consumed the meal. Their health deteriorated overnight, prompting them to take medicine, although Manoj Karmakar did not.

As their condition worsened, the family was admitted to Siliguri District Hospital on Sunday. Tragically, Manoj Karmakar passed away on Monday morning. His elder son, in critical condition, was transferred to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH), while his wife, daughter, and younger son remain under treatment at Siliguri District Hospital.


Manoj Karmakar, a toto driver, lived in a rented house in Suryasen Colony. Following the incident, Ward No. 34 Councilor Biman Tapadar visited the hospital on Monday evening. The area is in a state of mourning over the tragic event.
