Siliguri, 21st November: A one-day knockout football tournament was organized at Siliguri College grounds, on Sunday, in memory of sports lover Bapan Dey.
The tournament was inaugurated by laying wreaths at his portrait. Before the commencement of the tournament, athletes and guests were felicitated. A total of 8 teams participated in the tournament. The eight teams include one from Darjeeling, two from Sikkim and five from Siliguri.
The champion team will be awarded Rs 20,000, the runners-up will be awarded Rs 10,000, and a trophy. There are also prizes for Man of the Match, Man of the Series and Best Goalkeeper.
Raju Dey, secretary of Siliguri College Veterans Football, said, “Bapan Dey was a sports lover and a veteran football player. We have been organizing this tournament for the past four years in his memory.”
