Siliguri, 26th February: In a major crackdown against drug trafficking in Siliguri, police arrested a person allegedly posing as a lawyer with 294 grams of brown sugar. The accused has been identified as Ashish Kumar Swarnakar, a resident of Dalkhola in Uttar Dinajpur district.
According to police sources, plainclothes personnel from Matigara Police Station apprehended the accused from the Phansidewa More area, where he was reportedly waiting to deliver the contraband. Acting on a tip-off, police launched an operation and detained him from the spot. A substantial quantity of brown sugar was recovered during the search.
Following his arrest, the accused was produced before the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court, which granted police remand. Police have initiated further investigation to trace other members linked to the suspected drug trafficking network.
