Siliguri, 10th June: In a significant breakthrough, Bhakti Nagar Police arrested an individual in connection with the smuggling of cannabis following which a huge quantity of cannabis has been recovered. The accused has been identified as Mithun Ghosh, a resident of Raiganj.
According to reports, Mithun, disguised as a passenger had reached PC Mittal bus terminus by boarding a Siliguri-bound bus from Birpara today. Meanwhile, the cops of Bhakti Nagar Police Station, acting on a tip-off, launched an operation and initiated a search on Mithun Ghosh. During the search, two packets of cannabis, weighing about 15 kilograms were recovered from his possession. The market value of the seized cannabis is estimated to be in lakhs of rupees.
According to police sources, the accused intended to deliver the cannabis to another individual. The accused will be produced before the Jalpaiguri Court tomorrow. At present, police are engaged in further investigation.
