Siliguri, 24th September: In a significant breakthrough, police have arrested a suspect for allegedly stealing a gold chain from a sleeping person by cutting it from his neck.
The incident occurred on Nivedita Road within the jurisdiction of the Pradhan Nagar police station. The accused has been identified as Anmol Tamang, a resident of Mirik.
According to reports, on the night of September 19, Sougata Mitra was asleep in his home when a thief took advantage of the situation. The thief opened the window and stole the gold chain from Mitra’s neck before fleeing the scene. Upon waking the next morning, Mitra discovered the theft and lodged a written complaint at the Pradhan Nagar police station on September 20.
Following the complaint, police launched an investigation and arrested the accused on Monday while conducting a campaign at the Siliguri Junction Bus Stand, acting on a tip-off. During interrogation, Tamang confessed to the crime and revealed that he had hidden the stolen gold chain in the ground of a school in Himachal Colony.
Based on his confession, police recovered the gold chain. On Monday night, the police informed Sougata Mitra of the recovery. Following the recovery, Mitra expressed his happiness. He expressed gratitude to the police for their efforts in resolving the case.
