Phansidewa, 14th August: Amid nationwide protests over the rape and murder of a female doctor at R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital, another incident occurred at Phansidewa Rural Hospital in Siliguri Sub-division. A nurse on duty was attacked with an iron rod by a patient’s family member on Wednesday, leading to widespread tension.
Reportedly, the accused, Paresh Kachua from Bhojnarayan Tea Estate, had admitted his pregnant wife to the hospital. After consulting with the doctor about his wife’s condition, Kachua allegedly attacked the nurse with an iron rod. Fortunately, the nurse escaped as security personnel intervened immediately.
Police from Phansidewa police station arrived at the scene and arrested Kachua. According to Sahanur Islam, the Block Medical Officer of Health (BMOH) for Phansidewa, the accused appeared to be intoxicated at the time of the attack.
