Number of beds to be increased for COVID patients in Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri districts: District Magistrate

Siliguri, 21st April: District Magistrates of Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri districts held a meeting with the officials of the Health Department of Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri in the auditorium of Siliguri Sub-divisional Council, on Wednesday. The meeting was led by Darjeeling District Magistrate Shashank Sethi and Jalpaiguri District Magistrate Moumita Godara Basu.


Following the meeting, Darjeeling DM said that in view of rising cases of the COVID-19, the number of existing 110 beds in North Bengal Medical College and Hospital will be increased to 200. Apart from this, 150 beds will be increased to 180 in Triveni. He further said that the number of beds in all safe houses in the district will be increased by 50%. He even instructed the private hospitals to monitor during the second wave of COVID-19.

Jalpaiguri DM Moumita Godara Basu said that with the increasing number of patients in the Biswa Bangla Krirangan SARI/COVID Hospital under Jalpaiguri district, the number of beds is being increased to 350. Meanwhile, there are 14 wards of Siliguri Municipal Corporation falling under the Jalpaiguri district, all the nursing homes under these wards will be asked to provide beds for corona patients.


Containment zones have also been discussed in the meeting. He further said that if the areas where COVID-19 infections are more, those areas will be declared as containment zones.
