Siliguri, 04th January: The North Bengal Tanker Owners Association has been protesting for the past three days demanding fair rent.
Reportedly, the association has been staging a sit-in protest in front of the gates of NJP Indian Oil since last Saturday. They had also shut down all services except emergency services.
Prasenjit Roy, on behalf of the organization, said that in 2014, the Indian Oil Authorities used to pay a specific rent, however, in 2021, they decided to reduce the rent value through the tender process. As a result, the tanker owner and the drivers are facing extreme difficulties. Hence, they demanded that if not more, the previous rent should be paid to them.
The North Bengal Tanker Owners Association has warned of staging larger demonstrations if their demands are not met soon.
