Siliguri, 29th February: A distressing incident unfolded where a man was charged with attempted sexual assault of a minor in the South Colony area under the jurisdiction of the NJP police station. The incident led to the arrest of the accused neighbour Nirmal Sarkar.
It is reported that a few days earlier, the mother of the accused Nirmal Sarkar had called the minor from the neighbourhood of South Colony to her home for some work at the prayer house. During this, Nirmal Sarkar allegedly attempted to sexually assault the minor. Upon hearing the minor scream, Nirmal Sarkar’s wife hurried to the scene, and the minor was released from the clutches of the accused. Meanwhile, it is alleged that the minor was threatened to not disclose the incident.
Initially, the minor kept the situation hidden due to fear. The incident came to light after a few days when the physical condition of the minor began deteriorating. Subsequently, the minor revealed the incident when the family members inquired based on suspicion.
Following this, the minor’s family filed a written complaint against Nirmal Sarkar at the NJP police station on Wednesday. Subsequently, the accused Nirmal Sarkar was arrested by the NJP police on Wednesday night while the minor’s family demanded stringent punishment for the accused.
