Naxalbari, 01st October: Around 2,600 tea workers at Pahargoomiah Tea Estate in Naxalbari have received a 20% bonus from the estate management ahead of ‘Mahalaya’, bringing festive cheer to the workers ahead of Durga Puja.
Every year, disputes often arise between tea estate managements and workers over Puja bonuses, with disagreements reported over the bonus percentage and payment dates. In some cases, bonus payments have also been delayed or distributed in instalments.
This year, however, the Pahargoomiah Tea Estate management has credited the 20% bonus directly to the bank accounts of around 2,600 workers before the Durga Puja festivities.
With the bonus amount reaching their accounts, tea workers were seen expressing happiness while plucking tea leaves. Many have already started making purchases for Puja after receiving the bonus.
