Darjeeling MP Raju Bista extended his gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi for initiating 50 lakh rupees Insurance for Frontline COVID workers under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana.
On Thursday, a sum of 50 lakh rupees was deposited in the account of Bishnu Chatterjee’s wife.
Chatterjee is the first Frontline warrior martyr from the North Bengal region. He had been assigned as a health care provider in a quarantine centre under Phansidewa Block. However, while working in the centre, he contracted the virus and died due to complications arising out of it.
MP Bista stated that following Chatterjee’s death, he had asked Darjeeling District Administration to ensure his family is supported and all insurance benefits from both Central and the State are reached to the family.
The matter was also brought to the attention of the Union Health Minister and Union Finance Minister’s office for expediting the process.
MP Bista also thanked Darjeeling District Magistrate S. Ponnambalam and other administration officials for their quick action, which has helped the family get the insurance settlement in less than three months.
Bista further urged the West Bengal government to offer a job for one of Bishnu Chatterjee’s family members and also process the 10 lakh rupees state government insurance.
