Siliguri, 02nd January: A mother and son were found dead under mysterious circumstances in Uttorayon Township, Siliguri, on Thursday morning. The bodies of Tithi Das, the mother, and her eight-year-old son, Tejas Das, were discovered unconscious in their residence. Both were rushed to a nursing home, where doctors declared them dead.
Reportedly, the family, led by businessman Sujit Das, has been living in a bungalow in Uttorayon Township since 2018. Sujit had gone out for work on Wednesday night, and when he returned Thursday morning, he found the bodies of his wife and son in the bedroom. His daughter was found in a state of ill health. Later, when the three were taken to a nursing home, doctors declared two of them dead.
Upon receiving information about the incident, the Uttorayon Outpost police arrived at the bungalow and questioned the staff. Police discovered charcoal in a box in the room, which was reportedly lit to keep the house warm overnight. Authorities now suspect that the mother and son may have died due to toxic gas from the burning charcoal.
The bodies were later sent to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital for autopsy. The Uttorayon Outpost police have launched an investigation into the incident.
