Mobile shop burgled on Eastern Bypass in Siliguri, panic in Thakur Nagar area

Siliguri, 07th January: Panic spread in the Thakur Nagar area along Siliguri’s Eastern Bypass after a mobile shop was burgled late on Tuesday night. The burglars allegedly cut through the tin roof and broke the ceiling to gain entry into the shop, escaping with goods worth several lakhs of rupees.

According to sources, the shop owner had closed the store as usual on Tuesday night. On Wednesday morning, he discovered the shop ransacked, with items scattered across the floor and the ceiling damaged, following which the theft came to light.

Upon receiving information, police from NJP police station reached the spot and began an investigation. Officers are examining CCTV footage from nearby establishments to identify the culprits.

The shop owner claimed that the store had been targeted earlier as well, but alleged that police action at that time was inadequate. In the latest incident, thieves reportedly made off with mobile phones worth lakhs, along with cash and other valuable items. He further alleged that the CCTV DVR was taken away by the burglars, apparently to prevent identification.

The incident has triggered fear among local traders, who have demanded the arrest of those involved and stronger security measures in the area.
