Siliguri, 05th July: Single-use plastic has been banned across the country from July 01 to protect the environment from plastic pollution. To ensure that the order is followed in the city as well, Siliguri Municipal Corporation has been continually campaigning in various markets of Siliguri.
Likewise, Siliguri MLA Shankar Ghosh took to the streets to make the general public aware of the usage of plastic bags and their harmful effects on the environment. He visited various shops and spoke to the customers and vendors.
Addressing the media, the MLA said that many bags are made of plastic but seem like paper or cloth. Due to this, the buyers and sellers are not able to differentiate which bags are usable and which are prohibited. He further said that people need to be made aware. He further added that the usage of plastic cannot be completely stopped until the plastic bags making factories are closed.
