MLA Shankar Ghosh demands ‘boiled rice’ over ‘atap rice’ in government ration supplies

Siliguri, 15th July: Siliguri MLA Shankar Ghosh handed over a memorandum to Abhijit Dhar, district controller of Khadya Bhawan in Siliguri, urging to supply parboiled rice instead of atap rice in government ration supplies.

Shankar Ghosh said that ‘atap rice’ is being served in the ration shops under the Siliguri subdivision. As 90% of the people of Siliguri do not eat ‘atap rice’, he urged to supply ‘boiled rice’ in government ration supplies within the Siliguri Sub-division region under Darjeeling district.

Parboiled rice is partially precooked which improves the texture of the rice, making it fluffier and less sticky when you cook it than the sun-dried atap rice.
