Siliguri, 23rd March: A minor girl was found dead under suspicious circumstances in Siliguri, triggering widespread tension in the Durganagar, Gurung Basti area under Ward No. 03 in Siliguri.
According to local sources, the minor was reportedly in a long-term relationship with a married man, who is a teacher by profession and used to tutor her. The man is said to have a wife and three children. Recently, the minor had allegedly asked him about marriage, following which a dispute broke out between them.
On Monday morning, family members found the girl hanging inside her house. She was immediately rescued and rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
The incident sparked massive unrest in the area, with local residents allegedly attacking the accused man’s house and carrying out vandalism.
Upon receiving information, police from Pradhan Nagar Police Station reached the spot. Central forces were also deployed to bring the situation under control.
BJP candidate Shankar Ghosh visited the area and spoke with the minor’s family members and locals.
Meanwhile, the accused man and his family members are reportedly absconding since the incident. Police have initiated an investigation into the matter.
