Siliguri, 13th February: A minor girl who visited the district hospital in Siliguri with complaints of stomach pain was found to be around seven months pregnant, triggering swift police action.
Following information from doctors, police from the Women’s Police Station arrested a 25-year-old youth in connection with the case.
The accused has been identified as Dhruv Roy (25), a resident of the Bhorer Alo police station area. According to sources, the minor had gone to the district hospital with her mother after experiencing severe abdominal pain. During medical examination, doctors discovered that she was approximately seven months pregnant. Suspecting foul play, the hospital authorities immediately informed the police.
During interrogation, the minor reportedly stated that she had come into contact with the accused some time ago and the two developed a friendship. It has been alleged that the youth lured her and established physical relations. The family was unaware of the relationship. The matter came to light when she was taken to the hospital due to worsening pain.
Acting promptly on the complaint, Women’s Police Station officials arrested the accused from the Bhorer Alo police station area within hours.
A case has been registered against him under the POCSO Act, and he was produced before the Siliguri court. Police stated that a detailed investigation into the matter is currently underway.
