Minor drowns while fishing in Siliguri

Siliguri, 16th November: A tragic incident occurred in Jyortirmoy Colony, Ward No. 32 of Siliguri Municipal Corporation, when a minor drowned while fishing in the Mahananda River on Saturday afternoon.


According to reports, three minors had gone fishing in the river when they were swept away. A young man from the area witnessed the drowning and quickly jumped into the river to rescue the three children. While the rescuer was able to save the other two minors, a 9-year-old boy drowned and died on the spot.

The police of NJP police station were alerted and arrived at the scene to recover the body. The deceased minor’s body was sent to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) for an autopsy. The tragic incident has left the entire area in a state of mourning.
