Memorandum submitted to Alipurduar BDO demanding to re-open sand and quarrying operations in Shil Torsa River

Alipurduar, 28th November: Sand and stone quarrying in the Shil Torsa River of Alipurduar has been shut for eight months, affecting the government and private construction works in Alipurduar and Cooch Behar districts. Workers are getting unemployed and have been facing a crisis as it is difficult to sustain their livelihood.

Today many protesters, including hardware businesspeople, lorry owners and employees involved in quarrying protested at the BDO office in Falakata, demanding an immediate opening of the quarrying.

They also submitted a memorandum to the BDO office along with the protest. The protesters have further said they will launch a massive agitation if the problem is not resolved soon.
