Fulbari, 15th December: A mega drinking water project has been proposed to be set up in Fulbari. The project will supply drinking water to Siliguri city. On Friday, Siliguri Mayor Goutam Deb and Rajganj MLA Khageswar Roy, including other officials visited the site and took stock regarding the implementation of the project.
Reportedly, a mega drinking water project has been planned to be set up in Fulbari at an estimated cost of Rs 519 crore. The tender process and work order of the project have already been completed and CM Mamata Benerjee laid the foundation stone virtually on December 12. Significantly, The water from the Teesta River from Gajoldoba will be directed to Fulbari through a pipeline, purified, and supplied as drinking water to Siliguri. Notably, complications arose at several locations regarding laying these pipes.
In an attempt to resolve the prevailing issues, the Siliguri Mayor and Rajganj MLA visited the specific areas. In this regard, the Mayor stated that no individuals would undergo permanent eviction during the laying of pipes for the project. He added that, in the meantime, a few houses will have to be relocated. However, after the completion of the laying of pipes, the concerned families will be able to settle down once again. Furthermore, he stated that the Gram Panchayat (GP) members have been given the responsibility to look into the matter.
