Siliguri, 16th October: A massive fire erupted at the Naxalbari Bazar in the Siliguri sub-division of Darjeeling district and engulfed over 60 stores in the crowded market on Sunday night. The impacted businessmen alleged that due to the delay in the arrival of the fire brigade, the situation had deliberately worsened.
According to reports, local residents attempted to put out the fire but could not stop the devastating flames. Later, six fire trucks arrived at the scene and immediately began a dousing operation. After several hours of valiant efforts, the fire personnel took control of the prevailing situation. The actual reason behind the fire is still unknown. The incident led to severe damage to several items in the stores. However, no casualties were reported during the incident.
Upon learning of the incident, Siliguri Mahakuma Parishad Sabhadhipati Arun Ghosh, and President of Darjeeling District TMC Papiya Ghosh, arrived at the spot on Sunday night. On Monday, Siliguri Mayor Goutam Deb arrived at the location and met the affected businessmen. In response to the incident, all the delegates assured their support for the impacted businessmen.
