Man sentenced to life imprisonment for wife’s murder in Siliguri

Siliguri, 14th November: A Fast Track Court in Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for the brutal murder of his wife, Gayatri Nayak (30), in 2012. The court found the accused, Naveen Nayak, guilty after a prolonged trial of 12 years.


Reportedly, the tragic incident occurred on the night of June 26, 2012, in Dangipara Kumartoli, when Gayatri Nayak was lynched to death by her husband. Following the murder, Naveen Nayak fled the scene. However, three days later, the Khalpara Outpost police arrested him from NTS More after conducting an investigation.

The case went to trial, and after reviewing the evidence and hearing testimonies from 22 witnesses, the court convicted Naveen Nayak and sentenced him to life imprisonment.


According to prosecutor Samiran Sutradhar, Naveen Nayak, a driver by profession, married Gayatri, who was about 10 years older than him. The couple had been living together in a rented accommodation in Dangipara. On the night of June 26, 2012, Naveen meticulously planned and executed the murder of his wife while she was asleep.

After 12 years of legal proceedings, the court has now delivered justice for Gayatri, bringing closure to the case.
