Man Killed for Refusing ‘Dadagiri Tax’: Heavy police presence deployed after tension in NJP’s Rajaholi

Siliguri, 03rd November: Tension escalated in the Rajaholi area under the NJP police station following the death of an elderly man for refusing to pay ‘Dadagiri Tax’. The deceased, identified as MD Johari, was brought home on Sunday after his post-mortem, leading to his family preparing for the final rites.


It is to be noted that the attackers were notorious for engaging in ‘Dadagiri’ (high-handedness) and extortion activities in the neighborhood. As per reports, numerous allegations have surfaced that, mobs vandalized the homes of those accused of the man’s murder, causing significant unrest in the area.

In response, police from the NJP station and Rapid Action Force (RAF) teams arrived on the scene to restore order, detaining several individuals. Additionally, a heavy police presence has been deployed throughout Rajaholi to maintain law and order, with officers patrolling the area to prevent further incidents.
