Siliguri, 28th December: Making an excuse of not having change for a Rs 2,000 note, a man fled away without paying his food bills. The news surfaced from Siliguri’s Burdwan road on Monday.
According to the information, the said person was heading towards Fulbari from Rajganj in a rented car and made a quick stop in Siliguri. He parked the vehicle near Burdwan Road and allegedly ordered food at three separate hotels. He then made an excuse of not having change for a Rs 2,000 note and instead took 300, 400 and 1000 rupees each from all the three hotels. He left with the cash claiming that he would run a few errands and return with the change.
When the man did not return even after 2-3 hours, the hotel owners grew anxious and started questioning the driver of the aforementioned vehicle. They then learnt that the man had hired the vehicle and had not paid his fare to the driver.
The incident was soon reported to the Khalpara police, who reached the spot as soon as they received the news. Reportedly, the driver of the vehicle has been taken to the police station for questioning. Police have started investigating the incident.
