Siliguri, 01st September: A man was arrested by Bhakti Nagar Police in Siliguri for allegedly sexually assaulting his minor stepdaughter over several months.
According to sources, the minor’s mother had remarried after getting divorced from her first husband and was living in the Bhakti Nagar Police Station area with her daughter from the previous marriage and her second husband.
According to the complaint, the accused allegedly sexually assaulted the minor whenever her mother left home for work. The girl’s mother alleged that the abuse had been continuing for the past three to four months.
The accused allegedly threatened the minor and warned her not to disclose the incidents to anyone. As a result, she reportedly remained silent about the alleged abuse.
On Monday, the minor finally informed her mother about the alleged incidents. The mother subsequently lodged a complaint at Bhakti Nagar Police Station.
Based on the complaint, police arrested the man on Monday night. A case has been registered under the POCSO Act, and the accused was produced before the Jalpaiguri court on Tuesday.
Police are investigating the matter.
