Siliguri, 02nd October: Women Police Station arrested a man for allegedly luring a woman with the promise of a job and good salary, holding her captive at a house in Siliguri’s Matigara area and repeatedly sexually assaulting her. The accused has been identified as 38-year-old Yakub Ali.
According to police, Yakub Ali allegedly promised the economically vulnerable woman a job with a good salary before taking her to a house in the Matigara area. He allegedly held her captive there and repeatedly sexually assaulted her.
The woman alleged that the accused also threatened and assaulted her during the period she was held captive. She claimed that she was kept confined for more than 15 days.
The woman eventually managed to escape from the accused’s alleged custody and lodged a written complaint at the Women Police Station on 29th September.
Following the complaint, police launched an investigation into the matter. Acting on information from confidential sources, police arrested Yakub Ali from the Gayaganga area on Thursday.
Police have registered a case against the accused under sections related to rape and other relevant provisions. Yakub Ali was produced before the Siliguri court on Friday.
Police are also investigating whether any other person was involved in the incident. The Women Police Station is continuing its investigation.
