Siliguri, 13th February: Panitanki Outpost police under Siliguri Metropolitan Police rescued the missing daughter of a Trinamool councillor and arrested a man on charges of abduction.
The accused has been identified as Sushanto Saha, a resident of Sarkar Para under Ward No. 41. He is reportedly employed with a non-banking finance company.
According to police sources, the councillor’s 22-year-old daughter had gone missing a few days ago. A missing complaint was lodged at the Panitanki Outpost, following which an investigation was initiated.
During the probe, police tracked mobile phone locations and gathered inputs from various sources. Based on the leads, officers rescued the woman from the Sarkar Para area under Bhakti Nagar police station limits on Thursday night and arrested Saha in connection with the case.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the accused allegedly lured the woman before abducting her. The accused was produced before the Siliguri court on Friday. The woman’s statement has also been recorded.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Rakesh Singh confirmed that the complaint was registered and that the accused was arrested during the course of the investigation. Police are continuing to probe the motive behind the alleged abduction.
