Siliguri, 26th July: A tragic incident occurred on Thursday night near the newly built flyover at Jhankar More in Siliguri, where a man allegedly killed his own friend. The deceased, identified as Dev Bhanu Bhuti (34), was a resident of Ward No. 04 of Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC). The accused is named Sintu Kumar.
Reports indicate that Dev Bhanu Bhuti and Sintu Kumar were once close friends, but their relationship soured over a minor issue. About 20 days ago, Sintu Kumar reportedly visited Dev Bhanu Bhuti’s house while intoxicated, leading to a quarrel between the two. During the altercation, Sintu allegedly threatened Dev Bhanu Bhuti.
On Thursday night, Sintu was reportedly standing near the Jhankar More flyover with some friends when Dev Bhanu Bhuti passed by in his Toto. Seizing the opportunity, Sintu and his companions allegedly stopped Dev Bhanu Bhuti, assaulted him, and strangled him.
Dev Bhanu Bhuti’s family rushed him to Siliguri District Hospital after learning of the attack, but he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. The family has since filed a written complaint at Khalpara Police Station against Sintu Kumar, his associate Bappa Das, and four others. Police are actively investigating the case.
