Malda, 05th January: Man charged with the murder of a young woman was arrested by the Manikchak police of Malda. The arrested has identified as Atiur Rahman.
It is to recall that on Saturday morning, an unidentified woman’s blood-soaked body was recovered from a deserted place in Kamalpur village under Manikchak police station. The police, who were involved in the investigation, later identified the girl as Reshmi Begum, a resident of Kishanganj in Bihar.
After the identification of the body, the police started gearing up and began questioning the family members, after which the police came to know that Reshmi Begum was in a relationship with a young man named Atiur Rahman of Kamalpur.
According to sources, Reshmi was in a relationship with Atiur for the last four years. They both lived together in Mumbai and returned home a year ago. Atiur allegedly demanded Rs 1.5 lakh from Reshmi’s father four months ago and started threatening Reshmi of leaving her when he did not receive any money. Reshmi’s father Sheikh Mosharraf alleged that Atiur is behind the murder of his daughter, based on which the police arrested Rahman. However, he denied all allegations. The police, today, requested the court for Atiur Rahman’s custody.
