Siliguri, 12th February: A massive fire broke out in Nivedita Market late Wednesday night, destroying several shops. Around 2:30 AM, a security guard spotted flames in one of the shops and immediately alerted the fire department and shop owners. Due to the congested area, the fire spread quickly, engulfing multiple shops.
Local residents and a police officer initially tried to control the blaze, and the fire department later managed to bring it under control after nearly an hour of efforts.
Dharmendra Krishna Roy, officer at Siliguri Fire Station, said the fire may have been caused by a short circuit, and a detailed investigation is underway. About 5-6 shops suffered damage, with losses estimated at several lakh rupees by the affected business owners.
