Siliguri, 10th December: The SOG and DD units of the Siliguri Metropolitan Police busted a major drug supply network operating from Vishwas Colony in Matigara and arrested three accused, including a brother-sister duo and a woman associated with their household. Police recovered 500 grams of brown sugar and cash amounting to ₹5.16 lakh from their possession.
According to police sources, the prime accused, MD Azad, had brought around 800 grams of brown sugar to Siliguri from Kaliachak in Malda. Of this, nearly 300 grams had already been sold at different locations. To evade police surveillance, his sister Ajmeri Khatun and Arshida Khatun had gone to deliver the contraband near the under-construction four-lane elevated road at Chandamuni.
Acting on specific intelligence, the SOG–DD team conducted a raid on Tuesday evening and nabbed all three red-handed with a large quantity of brown sugar and cash. The DD has registered a case against the accused under the NDPS Act and produced them before the Siliguri court on Wednesday.
Police have sought seven days of remand to interrogate the accused and trace the entire network.
