Locals shutter ration shops in protest over alleged corruption in ration distribution in Phansidewa

Phansidewa, 02nd January: Tension gripped Phansidewa after locals demonstrated by shutting down the ration outlet located in the Balaiganj village of Phansidewa block.

According to reports, the food department had previously suspended the ration shop’s license followed by several allegations of corruption levelled against it. Several members of the cooperative society’s rationing committee were accused of corruption. As a result, another ration dealer was assigned to distribute rations for two months. However, the Food Department later withdrew the suspension of the ration shop.

On Tuesday, the beneficiaries were to be distributed in the ration shop when the locals voiced their objection through a demonstration. The demonstrators objected to the provision of licenses to the corrupt and stated that the locals are aware of the Cooperative Society Chairman Kewal Singh’s alleged involvement in corruption. Upon receiving the information, the Phansidewa police reached the location. The entire matter is currently under further police investigation.
