Siliguri, 21st December: In a bold move by local residents, two thieves were apprehended and handed over to the police on Saturday morning in the Purba Hatiadanga area of Dabgram-Fulbari II.
Reportedly, the area had been grappling with a series of thefts in recent months, leading to frustration among the locals. Despite multiple complaints to the police, the thefts continued. On Friday, two more thefts occurred in local homes, prompting the residents to take matters into their own hands.
On Saturday morning, after filing a complaint with the local panchayat, the locals, along with some panchayat members, raided a suspicious house. During the raid, stolen goods were recovered, and two young men were apprehended. The two thieves were then immediately handed over to the Ashighar Outpost police.
Locals expressed their concern over the increasing thefts in the area and alleged that the police had not taken sufficient action despite repeated complaints. They demanded a thorough investigation and strict punishment for the culprits.
The police at Ashighar Outpost have launched an investigation into the incident.
