Fulbari, 27th March: In a recent development, a married woman attempted to commit suicide by jumping into the Teesta Canal in Paschim Dhantala area of Fulbari II Gram Panchayat (GP), adjacent to Siliguri. Significantly, the prompt action of a local saved the woman’s life.
As per reports, the locals spotted a woman walking on the edge of Teesta Canal on Wednesday. Subsequently, the woman scaled onto the railing. However, before the woman jumped into the canal, a local named Ranjit Biswas managed to held her hand and pulled her down.
As the news of the incident surfaced, commotion prevailed in the area. Sources revealed that the woman arrived at the canal after a family dispute. Later the woman was sent home after proper identification.
In this regard, Ranjit Biswas stated that it is impossible to escape if an individual falls into the canal due to the huge water volume and strong current. He added that if he had failed to held the woman on time, she would have lost her life.
